At Little Grubs Kindergarten, we offer a unique daily programme. Children attend for the whole day, engaging in a natural rhythm of familiar activities and repetitive routines. Our day looks like this…

Children arrive at Little Grubs from 8.30am - 8.45am, where staff meet them on our playground.

Our welcome circle starts at 8.45am; this signals the start of our day. This important aspect of our day ensures all children have the opportunity to share their thoughts and to feel a sense of community and belonging. We use this social time to learn the days of the week, engage in a daily rhyme and to explore themes for the day.

We then walk across the meadow to our dedicated play spaces, stopping to observe changes in the landscape and connecting with nature. Arriving at our chosen play space, children engage in self chosen play activities exploring the environment and playing with what they find. Staff do not interrupt, but safeguard this sacred playtime by observing and learning from the children.

The group comes together around mid-morning to enjoy a snack of a bowl of fresh fruit and home baked bread and butter. We encourage a moment of stillness to tune into nature whilst we are eating and enjoy making up a story together. We often enjoy a campfire and cook a snack during this time.

Following snack time, children return to their activities and have an opportunity to engage in focused skills. These skills can range from using a hammer to learning games for counting or rhyme.

We return to our playroom at around 12.45pm. We take a moment to reflect on our morning, before engaging in Yoga style stretches and breathing and settling for a mindful story.

Little Grubs children enjoy helping with laying the table for lunch. Lunch is served at about 1.15pm with meals prepared on site by our own cook, using produce from the farm where possible.

In the afternoon, children explore the open-ended resources in our playroom, experimenting creatively with materials; developing and practising skills. We engage in cooking activities and utilise the outdoor spaces closer to the playroom. Our day ends at 4.00pm, where children meet their parents on the playground.
